Dr. Krstal K. Thompson hails from Philippi, West Virginia where she graduated from Philip Barbour High School with honors and obtained her Bachelor’s Degree in Biological Sciences from Alderson Broaddus College. Keeping true to her roots, Dr. Thompson remained in our beautiful, mountain state and attended West Virginia University (WVU) School of Dentistry where she earned her Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree. She then completed an additional five years with her internship and surgical residency in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery specialization at the Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, West Virginia.
Dr. Thompson attributes her remarkable success to the people who have supported her throughout her professional journey, from her parents who taught her to always work hard and encouraged her to be the first in her family to graduate college, to her husband of 16 years who delayed his own education to work to put her through school.
During her Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery training, Dr. Thompson earned an outstanding reputation throughout the Health Science Campus for her vigorous work and excellent performance. She was awarded an Excellence in Trauma Surgery Award and a Cornerstone of Recovery Award from the WVU Trauma Surgery Team and was an American Academy of Orofacial Pain Award recipient.
When not taking care of patients, Dr. Thompson enjoys spending time at home and exploring the outdoors with her husband, Ron. She, and Ron, also love to participate in running marathons!
Dr. Thompson has filled a very important niche in our group. It is a privilege to have her as a member of our practice here at Southern West Virginia Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons, LTD. She enjoys working with our current local referring doctors and dentists and loves to provide care in our West Virginia communities. Many of these referring doctors and dentists were her classmates in Morgantown at WVU and she has known them for years. We know you will find her to be a very skilled, talented, and compassionate oral surgeon. We proudly profess that she is a true asset to our practice, and to the citizens of the Southern West Virginia region.
